Time to get down to business, people!!
We are proud to kick off our artist announcements with none other than Dick Dale.
Residing in Southern California, Dick Dale invented surf music in the 1950s. His skill is second to none and he is hailed as one of the world’s greatest guitarists.
He was given the title “King of the Surf Guitar” by his fellow surfers with whom he surfed with from sun-up to sun-down. He met Leo Fender, the guitar and amplifier Guru and Leo asked Dale to play his new creation, the Fender Stratocaster Electric Guitar.
The minute Dale picked up the guitar, Leo Fender broke into uncontrolled laughter and disbelief – he was watching Dale play a right handed guitar upside down and backwards. Basically, a right handed guitar played left handed with Dick changing the chords in his head, then transposing the chords to his hands to create a sound never heard before.
For Tarantino fans, you’ll find Dick featured on the Pulp Fiction soundtrack with his track Misirlou playing behind the opening credits.
Dick is still pumping out great gigs and can often be seen performing the U.S. circuit these days with his son Jimmy – who, from all reports is a chip off the old block. Dick’s sound is unmistakable and we are pretty darn excited to have him on board.
A couple of weeks back, One Great Night on Earth Producer Leah Hallis-White and her trusty right hand man Gus Song visited The Hard Rock Cafe in Las Vegas to see Dick perform live and interview him. They encountered one of the good guys of the industry and were humbled by not only his performance, but the man himself. Dick is a big fan of Australia and itching to get back here to perform at our great event. Leah and Gus filmed a message of support from Dick which will appear within the One Great Night on Earth Facebook page very shortly.
We are honoured not only to have made the acquaintance of this gentleman of the music industry, but to have his full support and lock him in.
In short – WE DIG YOUR LICKS DICK!!!!
Watch this space for more announcements in the next so long and start gearing up for the big event in late 2012.
Getting good now.
Till next time,
LJM – Project Director
